Atlanta Pediatric Dentists
by Ken Marlborough

In Atlanta there are a number of renowned pediatric dentists. Atlanta pediatric dentists treat children starting from the age of two. This time is a critical period in a child’s life as far as proper formation of teeth is concerned.

In the U.S., parents who are conscious of their children’s dental health take them to pediatric dentists when the infants are nearly two years old. These pediatric dentists generally perform dental cleanings on the little ones—an important dental procedure that ensures the healthy development of children’s teeth.

Atlanta pediatric dentists also treat minor children for baby bottle mouth, which is related to the formation of severe cavities in most teeth. Baby bottle mouth develops at an early age. Parents who have a difficult time dealing with a constantly crying baby may try to tackle the problem by giving the baby bottles filled with milk or sugar water. Giving sugar water for a prolonged period, however, can result in the baby’s teeth becoming affected and cavities forming. This development is referred to as baby bottle mouth. The decay in a baby’s teeth lies undetected until the baby is taken to a pediatric dentist at the age of two. Sometimes, the decay is so severe that it assumes critical proportions and can only be rectified by proper treatment.

Atlanta pediatric dentists generally advise parents to give their babies plain water without any sugar to prevent them from crying; this alternative can effectively prevent baby bottle mouth.

Another method that a pediatric dentist uses to prevent decay is to place dental sealants on the tops of teeth. The tops of teeth have small grooves and pits. Food particles accumulate in these and give rise to cavities. Dental sealants fill these grooves and pits with a plastic material, preventing the formation of cavities in the process. Dental sealants can be put on teeth at any age. Generally, dental sealants are placed on children’s teeth to protect them from further decay.
